Follow on Google News | 141 Industries partners with KIPP NYC to provide uniform shirts from its apparel sales141 Industries and the NYC Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), a national network of free open-enrollment, college preparatory public schools, launched a new partnership to provide students in New York City with school uniforms.
By: 141 Industries KIPP NYC operates in many of New York City’s most underserved communities, making the donation of uniform shirts impactful to both students and KIPP NYC. Many KIPP NYC students and their families have trouble paying for uniforms or have only one uniform shirt to wear to school. The donated shirts from 141 Industries allows KIPP students to wear a clean shirt to school every day and removes one hurdle from a child’s life, helping them focus on their education. “We founded 141 Industries because we believe there is a unique opportunity to use regular purchases as a means to support organizations, like KIPP NYC, that are making amazing strides in better preparing local children to be successful. We are thankful for the privilege of being able to support KIPP NYC’s mission and provide their students with uniform shirts in a sustainable way,“ said Nicolas Lirette, co-founder of 141 Industries. With every purchase, 141 Industries gives uniform shirts to underserved children in their client’s community. Through the sale of apparel products to clients ranging from universities to professional sport teams and its 1-for-1 purchasing model, 141 Industries helps its clients use everyday purchases to alleviate at least one obstacle from the education process by providing uniform shirts to children whose families would otherwise struggle to supply one. KIPP NYC is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepare students for success in college and in life. Today, 86% of KIPP NYC students go to college (more than twice the national average for low income students). “When students have their shirts tucked in, belts, professional dress, it sends a message that we’re here for serious learning and academics,” said a principal of one of the KIPP NYC schools. With approximately 80 percent of KIPP NYC students eligible for federal free and reduced price meals, the stressful search for school attire takes a toll on them, their families, and the schools and organizations who must try to fill in the gap. 141 Industries hopes that through the uniform donations, removing even one hurdle between a child and their ability to focus on school will make a significant difference.
