Does your job feel like a marathon as you run from meeting to meeting? Are you afraid of being crushed under the load of action items you know you won't ever get to? There is a cure for this - it's called effective time management. Here are five tips to help.

Tip #1: Schedule time on your calendar to do your work.

You're probably saying to yourself "Don't I already do this? My calendar is always full." I'm sure it is. If you're like many of us you have meeting after meeting all long. But to build your career you need to accept action items and drive projects. If you're in meetings all day, when do you plan to do the work?

Most companies use Microsoft Outlook for scheduling. Block off time to do your tasks and mark yourself unavailable. Your colleagues won't know you're planning that time for yourself. They'll think they're just more meetings they need to schedule around.

Expected results from this tip:

   * Emails and voice mails will be returned same day.
   * Action items will be delivered on time barring no extra roadblocks.

Tip #2: Plan for tomorrow.

This tip builds on the previous tip of effective calendar management. How many times have you sat in a meeting wishing you had taken time to prepare for the meeting? Increased preparation leads to increased participation which gets you noticed in a good way. Block off an hour or two at the end of your day to prepare for the next day. During this time review the meetings on your calendar for tomorrow. Are you prepared for each meeting? If not, prepare during this time. Check to make sure you have completed your action items which are due tomorrow. Here's your chance to jump on them and shine when asked about them during a meeting tomorrow.

Expected results from this tip:

   * Your boss and colleagues will see you as a go-getter. You'll never sit in a meeting with that "deer in the headlights" look because you failed to prepare.
   * Your stress levels will diminish because you will be confident that you are on top of everything.

Tip #3: Keep a "to do" list.

Have you ever had so many tasks to juggle that you dropped the ball and forgot one? This tip may be old-fashioned but it still works. As requests come your way, write them down. I keep a running Notepad file on my computer desktop for this. When I complete something, I remove it. When a new task comes my way, I add it. It's simple but effective.

Expected results from this tip:

   * You will never have to say that dreaded phrase to your boss: "I forgot." Get Internet #1 - Time Management At Work Tips @ http://timecure01.webs.com and find out how you can Maximize Your Time!
