Traditional Ethiopian Music and Dance in Celebration of Valentine's Day at Montclair Restaurant

Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Mesob Ethiopian Restaurant, a family-owned restaurant in Montclair, NJ specializing in Ethiopian cuisine, will add to the Valentine’s Day dining experience with traditional Ethiopian eskesta dancers on February 14th, 2011.  Usually closed on Mondays, the restaurant will be open for 2 dinner seatings, 6:30pm and 8:30pm, by reservation only.

The one night only performance at Mesob will feature Frehiwot Bireka and Daniel Kebede, Ethiopian dancers just returning from a 12-state tour.  Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the colorful performers will dance as they move throughout the restaurant. The Ethiopian name “Eskesta” means  “dancing shoulders”.  Practiced mainly in the Northern parts of Ethiopia, the dance is performed both by men and women with their head, neck, chest and shoulders shaking in specific movements.

Berekti Mengistu, one of the two Ethiopian sisters who own Mesob, says, “We love to share our rich culture with our diners. What better day than Valentine’s Day to show this love!”

The sharing of Ethiopian culture is part of the charm of this eclectic restaurant.   The walls have become an art gallery of authentic Ethiopian crafts.  For patrons with smartphones, the latest addition of QR codes, allows an enhanced experience as the viewer can see videos of traditional  Ethiopian ceremonies, Ethiopian fashion, and Ethiopian menu items.
