Jan. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The Londoner, a weekly supplement of The London Free Press, has featured an article on a new Ovarian Cancer website, SunflowerSisters.ca.  The author of the website, an ovarian cancer survivor, explains that there is a real absence of useful information on living well with the disease.  In the USA alone, there were approximately 22,000 new diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer in 2010 and almost 14,000 deaths.  The statistics in Canada are similar - 2,600 diagnosed and 1,750 deaths.
There is no known cure for advanced disease but there are many things a patient can do to improve the quality of their life and possibly increase survival.  SunflowerSisters.ca exposes the author's own experience, offers useful tips on coping with chemo, nutritional support, practical advice on palliative care and legal matters.  The website offers suggestions to family and friends on becoming a Chemo Coach, practical ideas on gifts for the patient, recommending reading and most importantly, Hope.  The section entitled Hope and Healing is inspirational and written from the heart.  The author also opens up her refrigerator and cupboards to share all of her ingredients for healthy, plant-based nutrition.
