Dr. Marla Lichtenberger Honored

Jan. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Pets aren’t the only ones who appreciate Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals. MECA’s founder, Marla Lichtenberger, DVM, has been named Greenfield’s 2010 Business Person of the Year.

Doctor Lichtenberger opened her new ER hospital less than two years ago, and has been going great guns ever since, rapidly increasing employment.

“You are being recognized for your support to our community and through your service to residents in the Greater Milwaukee area and their pets, including the K9 units of Greenfield and West Allis,” writes Judy Baxter, president of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, in a letter announcing the award.

“I am honored by this recognition and can’t tell you how thrilled MECA is to be part of the Greenfield community,” said Dr. Lichtenberger. “Our location is ideal and our clients have been so supportive and appreciative of the work we do here, that I just recently made the decision to buy the hospital instead of lease it. MECA is in Greenfield to stay,” added Dr. Lichtenberger.

Doctor Lichtenberger will be honored at an Awards Banquet, Friday, January 28 at Knights of Columbus Hall.

MECA has expanded its support staff, hiring more receptionists, administrative specialists and veterinary technicians. Total employment has grown 48%, from 25 positions one year ago to 37 today.

With a team of professionals like this, MECA never closes, offering the services of a board-certified critical care specialist seven days per week, 24-hours per day. They treat illnesses and injuries that strike the smallest rodents to the largest dogs.

Doctor Lichtenberger has been in practice since 1987. She has served as president of the Milwaukee Veterinary Medical Association (2002-2007) and on the executive board of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association. In addition, she is an international speaker and published researcher regarding emergency care for small animals and exotics.

MECA is a 24 Hour Animal ER hospital located in Greenfield, Wisconsin. Referrals from veterinarians for emergency and critical care, specialists for emergencies, ultrasounds, echos—seven days per week from 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.  A surgeon is on staff M-F 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.  MECA is also able to handle all exotic cases.
