Jan. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- According to a study conducted by MosqueLamps.com, mosque lamps are bringing in top dollars in auctions the world over.

MosqueLamp.com has setup on its website a page called “Auction Results”, which shows mosque lamps auction results from two well-known auction sites where mosque lamps have been recently sold for some serious top dollars.

One of the mosque lamps sold for top dollars was a Mamluk enamelled and gilded clear glass mosque lamp from the Sultan Hassan period (EGYPT OR SYRIA, 1347-61 AD), which had the realized price of Euro 1,763,750 (that’s one million, seven hundred and sixty three thousand, and seven hundred and fifty Euros) or U.S. dollar $2,582,130 (that’s two million, five hundred and eighty two, and one hundred and thirty United States dollars). It should be noted that the price includes buyer’s premium.

The auction result page of MosqueLamps.com is showing 24 such auction results.
People behind MosqueLamps.com have been collecting Islamic art for three generations. They say, “We love, breathe, and think about art every day.”

It should be noted that the group has assisted several international museums, elite art galleries, and noble collectors. MosqueLamps.com specializes in museum-quality Islamic and ancient art.

The reason these classical mosque lamps are bringing in top dollars is that these mosque lamps have gone rare and there are only few top museums and private art collectors that own them. Almost all who have been able to get their hands on a rare mosque lamp are not willing to sell it.

Moreover, mosque lamps are considered to be blessed and the person who has one is believed to be a fortunate person. There is a text in the Koran in the verse 35 of the chapter called “The Light”, which says, “God is the light of the heavens and the earth! His light is like a niche in which one finds a lamp. The lamp is made of glass; the glass is like a brilliant star.”

After the Mamluk period during which mosque lamps were necessary to light mosques during morning and evening prayers, it became especially important for kings to have their own mosque lamps because mosque lamps displayed nobility, power, and also the blessings on the lamps gave spiritual power to the kingdom. Over time, owning mosque lamps became a sign of the elite and consequently some fine quality timeless pieces of colored and enamelled glass mosque lamps came into being.

MosqueLamps.com has put up for sale a rare 19th century Mamluk enamelled glass mosque lamp for interested top museums or private art collectors.
