Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (January 28, 2011) --- After almost three hours of interviews with the four West Palm Beach mayoral candidates, followed by a 90-minute meeting of the Chamber’s LEAD PAC, the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches has endorsed West Palm Beach City Commissioner Molly Douglas for mayor of West Palm Beach.
“The City is at a critical juncture this year as the local and regional economy begins to shift into a mode of steady recovery,” said Chamber CEO Dennis Grady. “We’ve seen our own members in the private sector find creative ways to operate efficiently and do more with substantially less. We have heard loud and clear from our members that they will expect the same kind of thinking from the next administration.”
The critical issues cited by the Chamber’s leadership include “right sizing” the resources to increase the efficiency of the services the City provides, which will lower the operating costs and assist with balancing the City’s budget, reduction of property taxes and fees assessed to businesses and citizens, and the all-important reformation of an unsustainable pension plan.
The Chamber looks forward to a high-energy, carefully targeted partnership with Douglas to attract new businesses and investments to our area by leveraging the key attributes of the city.
“The momentum under Mayor Frankel is important to sustain and build upon,” said Clint Glass, LEAD PAC Chair.  “The developments and improvements accomplished over the last eight years are very important and significant to who we are as a city, how we are viewed both locally and by those evaluating what we have to offer. Under Frankel’s leadership we have added a number of wonderful assets to our community including: City Center, the Clematis District, the multi-family residential developments, the magnificent waterfront we all enjoy and the arrival of higher education projects such as that promised by Digital Domain Holdings.  We stand ready to work in partnership with our City officials to maximize the appeal of our city. The Chamber looks forward to continuing all the good work that has been accomplished during the past eight years.”
The Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches was formed in 1913 and has a membership base of approximately 1,200.
