Canadian Artist records "I'll Fly" to tell the Rett Syndrome story

Dana Marie, Canadian recording artist, donates proceeds from her single "I'll Fly," written for a little girl battling Rett Syndrome, to Girl Power 2 Cure, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and research funds for Rett Syndrome.

Feb. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Canadian gospel singer, Dana Marie, has a special little friend at church. Her name is Anna and she is just three years old. Anna cannot run, skip, climb, or even speak. She is "trapped" inside a body that will not work. She is trapped by Rett Syndrome, a severe neurological disorder that primarily affects girls... another one born every 90 minutes.

Dana Marie wants to tell Anna's story to the world.

I believe, I believe, I believe that it’s true
That a miracle is waiting for me and you
I believe, I believe, I believe I’ll be freed
And the fact I was trapped will be history...

The third track on her debut self-titled album, "I'll Fly," speaks from Anna's point of view. These are the words she would say if she could speak.

"My prayer is that this song can be used to bring awareness of this syndrome and someday find a cure for these beautiful girls," said Dana.

"I believe that this song is completely from God... Song writing is always a process and a song changes, grows and is modified as you work on and record the song.

"This song has a completely different journey. One day I sat down at the piano, unknown of what I was about to write…the lyrics, melody, and chords of  "I’ll Fly"…nothing from this song has changed since that point. My biggest goal in songwriting has always been to simply listen and connect with God in order that what He wants to say is brought forward. I’m simply a vessel."

There is indeed hope for girls like Anna. Researchers have isolated the responsible gene, as well as identified the protein that gene is supposed to be making. In 2007, researchers were able to reverse the symptoms of Rett Syndrome in the lab.

Anna's mother, Rhea Bax, serves on the Mothers' Advisory Board of the Rett Syndrome foundation, Girl Power 2 Cure. Girl Power 2 Cure works with families all over the country and across the globe to offer support, information and fundraising help. They also engage youth volunteers to spread awareness and raise funds for research.

Dana Marie will be donating 50% of the proceeds from the sale of "I'll Fly" to Girl Power 2 Cure through a special link on their website.

GP2C's Founder and Executive Director, Ingrid Harding, said, "We are honored to be able to share "I'll Fly" with the world. I know everyone who hears this beautiful song will relate to the continuous reach for hope and strength for a better future."
