Their low, deep center of gravity (CG) helps get the ball in the air quickly and easily, while the wide sole helps improve turf interaction. The game-improvement mid and short irons are the ultimate in forgiveness with an oversized design with an increased offset, a large effective hitting and a wide sole that improves turf interaction. These Callaways are very similar in the sense that they are real "Chunkmeisters", yet they have a different approach to the long irons, and a lot more kitschy type technology thrown in. Kudos to Callaway for actually trying a different approach on hybrids, unfortunately, they are ujust not my cup of tea. Besides, the basic approach has already been tried before. These are basically "Driving Irons" w/a shorter shaft and a bit more forgiveness. Any one remember the old Alien, Titleist or Cleveland Quad Pro Driving Irons that came out in order to try and challenge the hybrids? If you don't remember them, but notice that there are more and more hybrids popping up everyday, that really kind of tells the success ratio of those old dogs.
Overall these are very good performers in the "Super Game Improvement " category. They get a lot of style and technology points with me. COnversely, though I applaud their efforts to try something different in the hybrids, it is nothing new. Modified long irons getting re-dubbed as hybrids didn't work the first time around, and, even w/all this kitschy technology, it still doesn't.
