It works by being compact, about two or three feet tall, and then it extends to the length of a regular ladder. Thus there are two locking mechanisms for each step, so that as you extend it, each step locks into place. In our client’s case, one of the steps did not fully lock into place, and the ladder lacked a positive locking mechanism so our client could not see that the locks had not fully engaged. Our client had climbed to the top of the ladder to work when one step collapsed beneath him, causing the ladder to fall with him on it.
