By: The Race For Gold LLC Over 17,000 Team Name votes were received before the midnight deadline. For two weeks, eager and pesky fans hounded family and friends to vote. Social media and forum campaigns swung into full gear, some of which would school political campaign planners. The Team Name competition was a unique way to get fans involved at the onset of the competition. The Race For Gold is planning on executing the first of eight competitions in Virginia. The three competition teams now have names. Mike Anderson of Virginia Beach VA submitted “Mother Lode” and landed 1,287 votes to take the top spot. Mike submitted “Mother Lode” because “it referred to the original Gold Rush in 1849.” Shay Nicholson of Maiden NC submitted “Golden Retrievers” and scored 1,259 votes to earn the second Team Name. “I have always loved Golden Retrievers as pets” says Shay. “I thought the name would be fitting for a Race for Gold team name because the entire object of the show is to retrieve gold.” Tyler Thayer of Cortland NY brought “Bounty Hunters” to the fight and stole the third and final Team Name. “Bounty Hunters” earned 1,246 votes and got within just 41 votes of first place. Bounty Hunters narrowly beat Lindsey Anderson’s “AUw Struck”, which came fourth with 1,222 votes, just 24 behind “Bounty Hunters” and only 65 votes shy of “Mother Lode”, which was submitted by her husband. Lindsey commented “AU is the symbol for gold so it was a word play on Awe Struck to make it AUw Struck. I hope that everyone is AUw Struck with all of the gold they find!” “Second Rush” piled up 837 votes and finished in 7th place. Keith Chasteen of Louisville KY submitted “Second Rush” because it is “a reflection of what we are experiencing in the hobby of gold prospecting.” Another fan favorite “Twisted Sifters”, submitted by Chelsey Cochrane of McLean NY, was a late bloomer and gave the top names a run for the money. She reported that her brothers referred to her and her sister as the “twisted sisters”, so they used that nickname with a little modification and grabbed 820 votes and 8th place. By winning the online voting contest, Mike, Shay, and Tyler earned $2,000 each for submitting the winning names. The Race For Gold LLC would like to thank everyone who participated in the submission of Team Names and the spirited voting competition that followed.
