Feb. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Members of staff at social care and childcare recruitment specialists, Personnel & Care Bank (PCB) were treated to a 'behind-the-scenes' look at the making of a television show, by Lee McQueen, the 2008 winner of "The Apprentice." and the key note speaker at the 2010 PCB Motivational Conference.

Before becoming Lord Sugar’s Apprentice, McQueen spent 10 years working in recruitment as a resourcer and consultant and his practical and inspiring insight into the industry struck a chord with the delegates.

During his presentation, McQueen’s audience learned how he achieved success by setting daily challenges and goals, but in mini chunks to keep motivated. He described how working for Lord Sugar had built his confidence and that the secret of being successful in business is to understand what the client wants and giving them service above and beyond their expectations.

PCB’s managing director Janine Desmond explained the value of investing in a motivational speaker:  “When the country goes into an economic dive some companies immediately look at what to cut rather than what to keep. Long-term investment strategies are replaced with short-term fixes and in these companies one of the first casualties is a visible cut in staff training and development.

I believe this is a shortsighted and dangerous strategy.  Our company and reputation is built on the professionalism of our staff and we are committed to the long-term investment in their training and development. To improve performance in the workplace you have to motivate and inspire your teams to focus on achieving specific goals. Some motivational speakers give ‘generic’ talks but Lee really added value to our conference because he has first hand knowledge of our industry.  He was passionate and commanded attention, giving practical advice on keeping motivated, building team spirit and teamwork and encouraging everyone to go ‘back to basics’ and start planning how to increase their personal performance during these difficult times.”
