Feb. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) –As public schools brace for more budget cuts, 1-800-411-PAIN (http://www.411pain.com) is giving back and challenging others to follow suit.

“1-800-411-PAIN wants to ensure students and teachers have the tools they need. Education is so important and when public money isn’t there, someone has to pick up the slack,” said Dr. Robert Lewin, president and CEO of 1-800-411-Pain, a lawyer referral service and national network of therapy centers to help injured people. In the past year alone, 411-PAIN donated more than $100,000 statewide to Florida charities.

Most recently, Lewin earmarked $120,000 for two programs that support both teachers and students in Broward and Miami-Dade counties public schools.

•   The Read and Rise Literacy Campaign (http://readandrisemag.net/) is a partnership with Scholastic Book Fairs (http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/) and Clear Channel (http://www.clearchannel.com/) to enable students at Title I schools to purchase books at their school book fairs.  411-PAIN provides $5 gift certificates to the low income students.
•   The 1-800-411-PainCash for Teachers Contest awards $1,000 each month (January – April) to a teacher in Broward and a teacher in Miami-Dade, who have been nominated by students, parents or colleagues.  Clear Channel also is a partner of this program, which will culminate In May with a grand prize of $11,000 to a teacher in each county.

The January 411-PAIN prize winners were Melanie Mann, early childhood education teacher at North Miami Beach Senior High School; and Wanda Cooper, a second grade teacher at Nova Eisenhower Elementary School.

“We are proud to be partnering with Clear Channel and Scholastic to honor the teachers who make schools great and help low income students buy books that will inspire them to be dedicated readers,” said Dr. Lewin.

Information for nominations for the 411-PAIN Cash for Teachers Contestis available on the 411-PAIN Facebook page.
