Fatt Ashes BBQ Named 2011 Lakeland Pigfest Publix Backyard Grand Champions

Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Lakeland, Fla. – Fatt Ashes BBQ, a competition barbecue team sponsored by Highland Homes was named Publix Backyard Grand Champion at the 2011 Lakeland Pigfest held at the Tiger Town Complex in Lakeland, Fla. on Jan. 28 and 29.

In addition to winning the overall backyard amateur category, the Fatt Ashes team, founded by Florida new home builder (http://www.highlandhomes.org) Highland Homes’ construction manager David McMillan and plans coordinator Charlie Laughon, also took home trophies in the brisket category and the ribs competition.

“We love the opportunity to support members of the Highland Homes family in their personal endeavors,” said Joel Adams, Executive Vice-President. “We especially enjoy it when those personal pursuits are so delicious.”

During the event on Friday, Jan. 28, members of the home builder’s sales staff were on hand to boost enthusiasm by handing out koozies, Mardi Gras beads and fliers. Highland Homes also gave away a barbecue tool set to one lucky raffle winner. For added entertainment, the Highland Homes booth included two disc jockeys from TCB Sound Services, Tim Parker and Harley Constant; also Highland Homes employees.

Founded in 1997, the Lakeland Pig Festival is one of Florida’s annual state barbecue championships. The festival is a 501(c)(3) organization, and its proceeds benefit charitable organizations within Polk County. The 2012 Lakeland Pigfest is scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28.
