Men Looking Ahead News Magazine Honors McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP Partners

Feb. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- ATLANTA — Men Looking Ahead News Magazine presented Thurbert Baker, a partner in the Atlanta office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) and Georgia’s former attorney general, with its “2011 Man of the Year” honor.  The award was recently given to Baker at the publication’s gala saluting Georgia’s most powerful and influential lawyers.  Baker was recognized for his public service achievements that have been a catalyst for positive change within the community and state.

Attorney General Baker served as the attorney general for the State of Georgia for 13 years under three different governors where he focused on fighting corruption and consumer fraud.  He wrote and advocated for Georgia's groundbreaking mortgage fraud statute, the first such law in the nation, through the General Assembly.  Attorney General Baker created the Open Government Mediation Program within the Attorney General's Office, which has helped numerous Georgians resolve their request for open access to government meetings and records without having to go to court.  At MLA, his practice focuses on corporate compliance and investigations, public policy and regulatory affairs, multi-state litigation, public sector procurements and regulatory matters.  

Steve Labovitz, also a partner in the Atlanta office of MLA, was recognized at the gala as an honoree of Men Looking Ahead’s “Power List of Georgia’s Most Powerful and Influential Lawyers.”  As an honoree, Labovitz was acknowledged for his high caliber of professionalism, integrity, intellectual capital, courage and vision.  Labovitz concentrates his practice on economic development, public-private partnerships (P3) and privatization.  He has extensive experience in formulating P3s for companies that have business issues with the government sector and governments that are interested in privatization or outsourcing governmental tasks.
