1. AN EYE FOR DECOR - choose tall arrangements to draw the eyes, and keep it seasonal: branches with blooms, berries or fall leaves. Use Mother Nature to bring the outdoors inside.

2. TABLE LINENS - Not just another table linen - layer your table with pretty fabric. Choose pretty colors, patterns, texture. Be creative! Table toppers or overlays can be anything... If you see a pretty shower curtain, buy it & use it on your table!

3. SETTING THE MOOD -Candlelight is always flattering, no matter what the situation. People feel more at ease in dim lighting, not to mention look better and younger!

4. THE RIGHT SOUND -Music is equally important. It should match the theme. Romantic verses upbeat, Barry White verses Black Eyed Peas. Sound level needs to be loud enough to be recognizable but not loud enough for karaoke!

5. STOCK THE BAR - Essentials include white & red wine (be careful offering red in your home), vodka, gin, rum, scotch, whiskey and tequila, along with standard mixers for your martinis, cosmos & margaritas, soft drinks, fruit juices, tonic water & club soda. Estimate 2 drinks an hour. Garnishes: lemons, limes, oranges, olives, cherries. Don't forget the ice!!

6. SNACKS & NIBBLES- I prefer passed hors d'oeuvres to a buffet for a cocktail party. Who can juggle, mingle & still remain graceful? I love bite-sized appetizers being served by good-looking people!!

7. SET THE SCENE - guests often take their cue from their host, so pour yourself a drink! If you're relaxed, everyone else will be too! A successful party is when there's a cocktail in hand!!
