Follow on Google News | Novelist Roger D. Grubbs releases “Spirit of an Eagle”Legends of the wild frontier such as the likes of Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett are synonymous with early American adventures. Let us introduce you to David Bowie, an unsung hero.
By: Roger D. Grubbs America, the land of the free, has always been a source of intrigue and desire for those who long for something better. It is now occupied and controlled by invaders from Europe, but that has not always been the case. The Indians were here long before Columbus discovered American in 1492. In the beginning there were friendly natives who embraced the visitors. So what changed? Spanish explorers came to America, not for the quest of a new world, but to plunder its riches. Beginning in 1513 with Juan Ponce de Leon and later by Hernando De Soto, the natives were attacked while homes were burned and looted. The inhabitants were often taken as slaves, separating the people from their families and way of life. Then diseases followed, wiping out entire civilizations of natives of the land. Those cruel, even barbaric acts had a long lasting effect upon the Native Americans. After enduring such atrocities, who wouldn’t retaliate against such an attack? But, there are two sides to the story. Early Americans coming to this great country were known as settlers. They were willing to live among Indians in peace. However, as the story begins, it is already too late for that. While the late 1700’s and early 1800’s brought us such legends as Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett, there was one nobody has ever heard about. A thirteen-year- David was head over heels in love with Rebecca West age fifteen, the prettiest girl he had ever set eyes on. Her younger sister Olivia age twelve was his best friend and secretly in love with him. While the two young girls began the innocent task of retrieving water from a nearby stream, they are taken captive by Creek warriors. Unknown to their parents, they were soon on a long and treacherous journey deep into Creek territory. Immediately David makes the decision to follow the trail in an effort to free the two girls from their captors. Soon he learns that the infamous Red Eagle, chief of the Red Sticks, is the culprit behind this abduction. Using the skills taught to him by his father, David begins the fight of his life against a vicious warrior. As the trail leads deep into the wilderness of Alabama, the lad realizes this is part of a master plan. There is a major uprising being led by the Red Sticks, and thousands of settlers are destined to die at the hands of the angry warriors. Upon making that discovery David has more to contend with than any man should have to face alone, especially at the young age of only thirteen. But love is a powerful and motivating force, especially for a kind, gentle soul with character. David’ Come travel with us as we journey from the mountains of Tennessee into an unknown wilderness, one filled with dreaded Creek warriors. A smart, skillful frontiersman matches wits against thousands of highly trained warriors, hoping to keep two friends from becoming intertwined with the customs of their captors. The love of a young man for his friends is a powerful force, one even Red Eagle must learn to respect. But, in the end it is the Spirit of an Eagle that holds the mystery. Roger D.
