Follow on Google News | Neste Oil to Increase Use of Waste in Refining Renewable DieselFinland-based Neste Oil, the world's leading supplier of renewable diesel fuel, said Thursday that it plans to increase its use of waste as a raw material for producing its NExBTL renewable diesel this year.
The oil group currently refines NExBTL renewable diesel at two plants at its Porvoo refinery in Finland and at a facility in Singapore which commenced production last year. Neste Oil plans to commission a fourth plant in mid-2011 in Rotterdam, a key energy shipping hub. Following the start up of the Rotterdam plant, Neste Oil's total renewable diesel capacity will amount to around 2 million tonnes per annum. As part of its strategy to increase the use of waste in producing NExBTL, Neste Oil said it will raise the use of "sidestreams" Palm oil will continue to remain the single largest raw material input and is anticipated to account for just under half of the total raw material used in the company's renewable diesel production in 2011. "When looking at the potential for making use of new raw materials, our primary criteria are wether they are produced sustainably and the impact they have in reducing raw material-related greenhouse gas emissions," said Matti Lehmus, Neste Oil's Executive Vice President for oil products and renewables.
