Follow on Google News | 3D Display Developer DDD Teams Up With Texas InstrumentsThe 3D display development firm DDD Group said Thursday it had entered into a development agreement with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) to implement its 3D conversion software technology on TI's applications processors for mobile devices.
DDD's patented technology converts 2D viewing to 3D with and without glasses, enabling the simple integration of computer games applications with 3D displays for example. "The delivery of TriDef Mobile is another important milestone for us as we seek to expand our markets into mobile 3D devices including smartphones and tablet PCs," DDD chief executive Chris Yewdall said in a statement. TI recently demonstrated the technology at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, where it showcased how 2D video can be automatically converted to 3D and displayed on a glasses-free 3D mobile phone display screen. DDD, which is also know as Dynamic Digital Depth, said the companies' tie up would now enable TI to enhance its software offerings by offering 2D to 3D conversion "on the fly". DDD's TriDef 2D to 3D conversion software converts high definition (HD) video and photos from 2D to 3D for display on built-in, glasses-free 3D device displays, or through external 3D televisions. DDD, which also markets other 3D technology solutions, did not disclose any of the financial terms of its tie up with Texas Instruments. Author: Paul Chapman, analyst.
