March 4, 2011 - PRLog -- The training will take place at One Judiciary Square, located at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 850 N, room 844. The training will run from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. each day.

ARISE for Change combines the evidence-based practice of Motivational Interviewing (MI) with the ARISE Drop It at the Door training to provide youth and staff with effective communication skills. The aim of ARISE for Change is to increase pro-social outcomes of youth; decrease the number of youth entering the juvenile justice system and reduce the number of youth that recidivate. The ARISE for Change program consists of a three day training program for staff and 28 one-hour youth sessions.

The staff training is designed to build supportive relationships where staff listen, engage and positively influence at-risk youth, to work through the stages of change. Research has shown that high-risk youth need staff that are empathetic and can guide them through positive change processes. The ARISE for Change training provides staff with the skills to facilitate effective goal setting and pro-social change in the youth they work with.

During the staff training, participants will learn:
•   The importance of values
•   How change works
•   The power of choice
•   How to enhance internal change
•   Rapport building and collaboration
•   Ways to handle anger and stress in their lives
•   Skills to engage and influence others

Since ARISE was established almost three decades ago, they  have trained and certified over 5,000 instructors who have taught in excess of 4,000,000 documented hours of ARISE life skills lessons in Florida alone. ARISE is also being used in Canada, Jamaica, England, Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, New Zealand, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Kingdom of Bahrain, South Africa, Vietnam, Uganda, Nigeria and Haiti. ARISE curricula are presently being translated into Kazakh, Russian. Requests for translations have also come in from as far away as Pakistan and South Africa.
