What is Francoise’s ‘new vision’ for exercise for seniors?

Well, what is usually offered to seniors are ordinary physical exercises made a lot easier so weaker people can access them, with the help of a chair for support, for example, or if without, simply easier, 'watered down'.
These, obviously, can be very helpful and have their place, but to her that approach does not
tackle the heart of the matter.

Let’s take the ‘balance’ factor that most seniors are concerned with, for example.
To her, balance does not really develop by training to stand on one leg and gradually
letting go of the support of a chair or by training to grow one’s leg muscles.
Real balance comes from being fully grounded in one’s body, the energetic unit that is our
body, and only psycho-physical exercises provide the possibility to develop it.

Starting with Tai Chi for Seniors, one should put the emphasis on the posture of the body.
Tai Chi (and Qigong, Tai Chi Qigong and Taoist Gymnastics) first makes us aware of the
position of our feet and, simply put, the alignment of our bone structure.
(So far, no sweat - one thing at a time though!).Then the knees – above the feet – then
gradually releasing the joints of the body, we re-align the body all the way up to the top of the head.

Why go through this simple process?

Simply to allow the retained tensions held up in the muscles to release their weight towards the earth.
This allows our breath to deepen and our energy to flow through the entire body and ground us to the earth.
We can then start moving in the Tai Chi Form to circulate the ‘chi’ (our vital energy) in a natural way through the various body meridians (energy channels corresponding to each organ).
We can also use this in Qigong to develop our ‘chi’ by focusing on absorbing this vital energy from the earth and other sources in order to fill our ‘reservoir’, to become stronger, get healthier, even cure disease.

Such processes, briefly described above as a mere example , involve bringing one’s attention to one’s body, including one’s breath.
Thus, these active processes are called ‘psycho-physical’.
The more passive ones can be breathing and relaxation techniques and a lot of non-moving Qigong methods too.
How we feel about an exercise while doing it with our mind focused upon our breath becomes the key to gradually experiencing a new sense of wholeness, an integration of mind, body and breath that helps one develop inner peace and true energy, a feeling of well-being relaxation and strong health!

So these methods - and much more, for both seniors and younger people - allow us to remain or become supple, healthy, alert and therefore much more able to enjoy our later years.

Senior years can be the best of your life, providing you feel good!

They are there for your support – a compendium of processes that Francoise has trained in and taught for many years. Being now a senior herself, she has found these psycho-physical exercises ideal for seniors, requiring little effort and developing the vital energy one longs for in our later years.
Some of these are unconventional (though not difficult) and will keep us on our toes!

She calls them ‘Free and Easy Exercises for Over 50’s’.
