Follow on Google News | Sportime Randall’s Island Voted 2010 Indoor Tennis Facility Of The YearSPORTIME Randall's Island, home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, has been named "2010 Indoor Tennis Facility of the Year" by the American Sports Builders Association, a non-profit trade association.
By: Jerry Milani “We are very excited to have been acknowledged by the ASBA for the SPORTIME at Randall’s Island project. Our goal from the start was to build and operate the best possible tennis facility for residents of the City,” said Claude Okin, SPORTIME founder and Chief Exective Officer. “We have tried to create a tennis club unlike any other in terms of accessibility and the quality of the facility and its programs, while also providing the perfect setting to develop some great young players in partnership with New York icon and tennis legend John McEnroe. We think in a very short time we have proven we are well on our way to achieving those goals, and we are really just getting started. There is more to come!” In addition to its 20 indoor/outdoor har-tru and deco-turf courts, and world-class training facilities, SPORTIME Randall’s Island is home to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, which opened this past September, 2010. The JMTA eclipsed its original enrollment goals and now has over 500 first year students, with a staff of over 35 tennis professionals and coaches from around the world. The Academy offers world-class tennis training, while supporting its students in living at home and leading a balanced lifestyle, including education and team sports. The facility is also home to the New York Sportimes of the World TeamTennis Professional League, the 2010 WTT Eastern Conference Champions, lead by Captain John McEnroe. Offering private club amenities and concierge level member service, Sportime is also fully accessible to the general public for hourly and seasonal court use, indoors and out. It is one of the most unique public/private sports facilities in the United States, built with private funds in excess of $19 million on public land, at no cost to the taxpayers.
