March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- In addition to offering New Orleans first scent detection canine team, Inspector Hound announces a simple 4 step method to handle a bed bug complaint.  We aim to be your partner against this pest and strive to provide useful information and recommended best practices nationwide.  We hope you find this article useful no matter the size of your property.

1.   Relocate the Guest – This step is very obvious, but comes with a little risk.  Most notably the risk that the guest takes the problem to another room, to their home or even worse to an attorney’s office.

2.   Get Management Involved – Every staff member should be trained to inform managers of all guest complaints related to a potential bed bug problem.  After becoming aware, managers should contact each guest personally and focus on three things
•   Guest Satisfaction – Listening to guests is not only a great way to find out valuable information; it can also be the difference between a guests’s positive and negative feedback.  Considering the power of the internet, this should be of special concern.  Finally, it might be a good idea to offer them a few drink coupons at the hotel bar, a gift card to a local restaurant, or some other treat to ease their troubles.  Most guests are understanding and relieved when managers express genuine concern.
•   Remediation Cost(s) – Finding out how the guest found the problem, when they found it, where they had been prior to the property, etc… is a great way to determine the likelihood they may spread the pest within the property or even take it home.  If it seems likely that the guest could take the problem home or even to an attorney, complete step 3 before the guest leaves the property.
•   Property Reputation – Not one wants to be “that property”.  Getting involved early provides the best opportunity to satisfy guests, contain costs, and mitigate negative feedback.

3.   Complete a Thorough Inspection – Start with a good flashlight.  Inspect the headboard, box spring, and mattress for bed bug feces, eggs, shed skins, and live bugs.  If evidence of bed bugs is found, inspect adjacent rooms.  Though some cases are quite easy to find, small infestations are very difficult to identify.  Whenever there is doubt, hiring a canine scent detection team (a.k.a. Inspector Hound) is the fastest and most accurate method.  www.inspectorhound.com

4.   Contact a Pest Control Expert – Most importantly DO NOT TRY IT YOURSELF.  While this is the obvious route that most people try, it often results in severe infestations and months of trouble.  In fact, many professionals even struggle with this pest.  Find a company that specializes in bed bugs, ask how many bed bug jobs they have done, what process they use, if they guarantee their work, and if they have any customer references.  Expect them to tell you that they don’t have references because folks don’t want to talk about this problem.  If they can provide a reference or two, they probably know what they are doing.  Call the references, but be polite.  Finally, the more expensive and extensive the service the more likely you are going to get a guarantee and results.
