March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- The hipster cult label Undercover (or called Undercoveris and is a Japanese streetwear) was created by the Japanese designer Jun Takahashi. He has been a very successful designer in his own country for more than a decade. The brand has been also called "the essence of Japanese cool" and features finely crafted clothing collection which is described as "strange, but beautiful". Undercover has won various awards and been praised by other fashion designers including Miuccia Prada and Rei Kawakubo.


Jun Takahashi was born in Kiryu, Gunma, Japan in September 1969, where he studied Fashion Design at the Bunka Academy of Fashion. A 1991 graduate of Tokyo's Bunka fashion college, he started his retail business in 1993. With his signature punk street style composed mostly of jackets and T-shirts that have been patched, layered, slashed, deconstructed, and emblazoned with graphics, he quickly cultivated a following among the youth for his unique style. In collaboration with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons who was another achievement for the young designer, he showed his first collection in Paris in 2002. Takahashi's brand debuted at Paris Fashion week with great success. Soon after in 2003, he won two major awards for his designs from the Mainichi Shimbun. In 2005 he was invited to design a special edition camera case for Canon, as well as being given the opportunity to guest edit the Belgian A Magazine.

Undercover’s style and looks have propelled Takahashi in the fashion world and he continues to see success with his brand today. The brand has a large cult following, among the youth for his alternative image.  The brand seems to attract both ‘the strange and the beautiful’.
