March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- This past Sunday employees and their families from Basingstoke based Relocation Management Company HCR Group, joined together to plant 555 trees as part of the organisations Sustainable Relocation Promise.

HCR worked with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to ensure the planting aligned with their woodland strategy, creating a wildlife corridor between the Crabtree Plantation and the fenland in the Old Basing area of Basingstoke. A variety of tree species were planted to create a rich habitat for wildlife, including Maple, Hazel, Holly, & Elder trees.

Wildlife corridors have become increasingly important for towns like Basingstoke allowing wildlife to migrate between habitats that have been isolated by development, roads and urban infrastructure. The planting area is home to one of Britain’s extremely rare butterflies, the white-letter hairstreak. Great crested newts and dormice also inhabit the area, both of which are protected species. It is hoped that this recent planting will enable these species to flourish.

HCR Managing Director, Andrew Finney, who led Sunday’s tree planting commented: “Since launching HCR’s Sustainable Relocation promise in March 2010, we have received feedback from across the globe that our story is inspiring others to join the battle against the growing threat of climate change. Last year we planted 135 trees to launch the promise and on Sunday we began to build our own HCR Forest!”

Andrew also reiterated the company's focus on sustainability: "As a relocation specialist we understand the necessity for employee relocation from a commercial stand point, but we also would like to work in partnership with our clients to reduce the effects of these relocations on the environment. Here in the UK only 12% of our land is wooded, compared with an average of 32% for each European country. Our vision is to help retain wooded areas, which play a critical part in reducing pollution as well as generating oxygen, maintaining wildlife habitats and improving quality of life.”

HCR assumes full financial burden of its Sustainable Relocation Promise to provide eco-friendly employee relocations for its clients. HCR provides clients with certificates containing a unique reference number to enable them to track their tree's progress online. Even the certificates are eco-friendly – printed on paper made from sheep’s poo!
