March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- IoIC’s annual conference at the Highcliff Marriott, Bournemouth (11-13th May) will analyse the power and nature of the fearless communicator, and how this quality has become essential for consistent success.

Faced with unprecedented business demands and a dynamic and influential audience – given more power through the rise of tools such as social media – internal communicators have to develop new tactics for engaging all stakeholders, some of whom may be reluctant to make the journey.

‘The rise of the fearless communicator’ will focus on organisations who are succeeding in being fearless – delivering results, facing challenges, winning awards.

Topics will include: building the case for and maximising opportunities from social media; intranets – useful communication tool or dumping ground?; the MacLeod Report – two years on; building a centre of communications excellence; engaging stakeholder audiences for change.

Featuring a mix of presentations, case studies, panel debate and break-out sessions, the event will also include a pre-conference ‘Meet the Winners’ networking evening, offering the chance to gain valuable insights from winners of national and international awards.

Speakers include:
David MacLeod – co-author of the Government-sponsored MacLeod Report on employee engagement.
Nick Crawford – Bupa Group’s internal communications channel manager, responsible for launching Bupa Live, the company’s internal social media platform.
Paul Armstrong – head of social at Mindshare, former director of social media at Kindred and a PR Week blogger.
Katharine Birbalsingh, the London teacher who spoke out against the education system - on harnessing fear.
Rob Shorthouse – director of communications, Strathclyde Police
Lynette Crompton – internal communications manager, International Power, winner in the best digital media category of the IoIC awards 2010.
Natalie Marshall, internal communications manager at Premier Foods and Lesley Allman, Allman Communications – winner in the strategy category in the FEIEA Grand Prix 2010.
Central Office of Information – the Government’s centre of excellence for communications.

Suzanne Peck, IoIC events director, comments: “Communicators are moving into uncharted territory. Alongside greater responsibility for ultimate business success, they are also dealing with a more savvy, independent-minded workforce who don’t want to be ‘told’ things, are at home with social media and expect their business to be too.

“To thrive in this environment, internal communicators need to be bold, willing to grasp new technology and get the most from these new opportunities – all of which can be a daunting prospect.

“Our conference will help to provide insights, inspiration and practical tips on how to be dispel fear and succeed.”

The all-in price of £1,200 + VAT for non-members and £800 + VAT for members includes a pre-conference workshop and networking event, all meals and single accommodation.
