McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP Among Intellectual Property Today’s Top Patent Firms

March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON — McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) was named a 2010 “Top Patent Firm” by Intellectual Property Today magazine.  MLA ranked 12th among general practice law firms within a list of 327 boutique and general practice law firms with intellectual property practices.  Intellectual Property Today published the results of its rankings which are based on the number of patents filed in 2010 in its March 2011 issue.

In 2010, MLA secured 648 utility patents and nine design patents, representing a 17 percent increase over the number of total patents obtained by the firm for its clients in 2009.  

MLA expanded its IP and Technology practice this month by adding a 17-member patent counseling and prosecution team to the firm’s San Diego office.  Patent prosecutor Stephanie L. Seidman, Ph.D. joined the firm as a partner, along with associates Frank J. Miskiel, Ph.D. and Karen G. Potter, Ph.D.  Dr. Seidman leads a team of professionals that includes five patent agents or patent specialists, all of whom have a doctoral degree in a biological or chemical discipline.

The Top Patent Firms survey evaluates patent innovation as determined by patent representation.  Firms are ranked according to the number of patents issued where the firm or individual is listed as the legal representative on the issue patent.  For the 2011 top patent firm rankings, Intellectual Property Today evaluated 327 law firms and individual practitioners, basing the 2011 ranking on 2010 data.
