By: SleepBetter.org The "SleepBetter Love Nest Makeover" contest was conducted on the Facebook page of sleep tips and advice website SleepBetter.org (http://sleepbetter.org) "We reach out to Americans wherever they are to get them thinking about prioritizing healthy sleep including improving their sleep environment," The LoveNest Makeover survey reinforced data from previous national survey commissioned by SleepBetter. That is (spoiler alert for romantics) that Valentine's Day is more of a snooze than a sizzle for most Americans. SleepBetter Love Nest Makeover Data: Most Americans take a sentimental view of Valentine's Day if they take a view at all: *52-percent of respondents say that Valentine's Day is a "day to celebrate love," with a full tenth (12%) not "giving much thought to the day at all" *Naturally the majority (57%) of Americans prefer to spend time with their significant other, but following closely (39%) go for spending time with "Friends or Family" – happily only 4% opt for "Alone in the dark room, crying" *An endearing 63% of Americans purchase Valentine's gifts "because they want to" – but 22% buy nothing at all. The cynics lose with only 5% owning up to "having to" buy a Valentine's gift and a scant 2% reporting that they buy because they "want something in return" While most Americans are tame when it comes to Valentine's Day – there is still plenty of romance *18% say the day is "for lovers" *19% planned on wearing "as little as possible"(13%) *The overwhelming preference (47%) for what they wished to receive on Valentine's day was "Romance" – a quarter (24%) of Americans hoped for Chocolate *One and ten of Americans just wanted sleep the evening of Valentine's Day Valentine's Day and Sleep (2010 Study) *More than half the females polled (53%) said that good sleep is more important than good sex. Men said the opposite, with more opting for sex (48%) over slumber (38%) *Either way, for those hoping for romance, almost one in three respondents (31%) laments that their partners sometimes fall asleep when the mood strikes *87% of Americans in a relationship think that getting a quality night's sleep helps their relationship *16% say their partners prevent them from getting a good night's sleep The reasons are: snoring (35%); talking/nagging (9%); watching TV or using computer in bedroom (8%); alternate working hours (5%); insomnia (5%); restlessness (4%); waking them up for sex (2%) *Asked when they best connect with their partner, 58% said evening/night. And 16% said in the morning, 13% in the afternoon and 10% midday About Carpenter Co. / www.sleepbetter.org SleepBetter.org is dedicated to helping people sleep better.
