March 23, 2011 - PRLog -- If you decide to use a full service home care agency this usually comes at a higher cost.  However, an agency also provides prescreened applicants who have already had background checks and are insured and bonded. Since the caregiver works for the agency, tax issues and billing are the responsibility of the agency.  Also, if a caregiver quits or is not working out, a replacement can be quickly provided, and coverage can also be provided if a caregiver calls in sick.

Your other choice is to use an independent care provider which is basically an individual you decide to hire on your own.  This may come at a lower cost, but it will require careful legwork on your part. You will need to be aware of any tax laws and Social Security requirements since you will be hiring them as an employee.  You will   also have to perform your own background checks and identity verification, since there is no independent verification. You will also be responsible for any backup coverage in case of illness or if your caregiver suddenly quits.
