March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- 2009 marks a dawn of a new era in golf club design and adjustability with the introduction of the R9 driver, that not only allows you to adjust the center of gravity, but also the face angle, loft, and lie angle of the R9 through its Flight Control Technology (FCT). The combination of the of Flight Control Technology and Movable Weight Technology promote up to 75 yards of side-to-side trajectory adjustability.
I have long envied tour players, what with their golf clubs fitted down to the n’th degree. You see, we mere mortal men may buy the same clubs, but they bear little resemblance to what you see used on tour each week. It hardly seems fair that just because they’re better golfers, pros should get all the special attention. So when Taylormade Golf announced that they were integrating their Movable Weight Technology with a shaft that would allow you to control face angle, loft, and lie (they call it Flight Control Technology), I was thrilled. Best of all, for the traditionalists out there, the new Taylormade R9 features a classic head shape that doesn’t resemble a snow shovel.
The FCT bolt is as simple to undo as the weights and makes changing the R9 to one of its 24 settings very easy. That it has 24 settings is mind-boggling but the speed with which you can switch settings makes it great fun to play with. Moving the weights and the face angle showed that the face angle had the most obvious effect on trajectory and that the weights altered flight a lot less smaller. The FCT allows the face to be moved from 2 degrees closed to 2 degrees open. With the face moved all the way to the left, the book showed a high draw. While it was definitely a hard draw, it was medium high at most. With the face all the way open, the book showed a low fade and that is exactly what you got where you could roll the wrists without worrying about a snap hook. A neutral setup showed that this club has no inherent fade or draw bias and being able to alter the loft by 2 degrees gave noticeably different ball flight.
This is a cool and upcoming technology. This allows the player to easily move or change loft, lie and face angle! FCT uses a sleeve that is positioned over the tip of the shaft to accomplish. The sleeve can be rotated into different positions, changing the characteristics of the head, by loosening the bolt that secures the sleeve and shaft into the clubhead.
Taylor Made R9 Driver - Coming March 20, 2009The newest club for the 2009 season from TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Company is the Taylor Made R9 Driver. This driver truly is a new revolution in the golf driver category. The R9 utilizes Taylor Made’s legendary "Movable Weight Technology (MWT)" that was 1st introduced with the r7 metalwood product line. That technology allows players to change the clubs center of gravity by moving weight in different places, therefore promoting different launch conditions. Along with MWT, the R9 introduces a brand new feature, named Flight Control Technology (FCT). FCT gives the player the ability to adjust the loft, lie, and face angle of the club. This added technology with MWT makes the R9 driver virtually 24 drivers in 1. Being able to change and utilize these features truly makes the R9 driver suitable for all types of players, from touring professionals to high-handicappers.
Along with the new advancements in design, the R9 will feature the new Fujikura "Motore" shaft with High Inertia Tip (H.I.T.) Technology. This shaft will help players produce faster ball speeds and more stability on mis-hits. All of these combinations of technological advancements truly make this driver the most advanced in the history of TaylorMade-Adidas Golf. The Taylor Made R9 has already won a PGA event in its 1st week out on tour. That is something that has never been done by any other Taylor Made Driver model ever.
The R9 combines modern and classic lines to create a "New Classic" head shape that should satisfy players of all types. The club has a large address, and is described as a combination of the r7 SuperQuad and r7 Limited (a triangular shape with contoured corners) head shape design.
Bottom line, the TaylorMade R9 driver is a great golf club that provides unprecendented amount of adjustability and customization quickly, and without the support of a tour van. If your a low-mid handicap golfer, who likes to fine tune their golf club, and wants a tour claiber flight trajectory, than checkout the R9 driver.
