This FREE training, sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health Oil Spill Recovery Program, takes place April 4-6, 2011 at the Marsha Barbour Resource Center, 6815 Kiln Delisle Road, in Pass Christian, Monday April 4, from 9 am to 5:30 pm, and on Tuesday and Wednesday April 5 and 6, from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Follow-ups will be announced. Health care professionals may receive 18 hours of Continuing Education credits. Drs. Brown and Gerbarg, leading experts in the use of mind-body practices for relief of anxiety, depression, and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder following mass disasters, teach a unique fusion of ancient and modern mind-body approaches derived from QiGong, yoga, Christian monks, Coherent Breathing, Open Focus Meditation, and martial arts. They are the co-authors of the award-winning How To Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton) with Philip Muskin, MD. Their Breath~Body~ Registration for the 18-hour training is on a first-come-first- Continuing education credits will be offered by the National Association of Social Workers (Mississippi chapter), the American Psychological Association, the National Board for Certified Counselors, the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), and the Mississippi State Medical Association (through the Mississippi Department of Mental Health). Dr. Brown, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York, gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. Dr. Gerbarg, Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College, graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to clinical practice, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters.
