CPR to broadcast Saturday's Colorado Symphony performance of Carmina Burana

Live Colorado Public Radio statewide broadcast begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2

March 31, 2011 - PRLog -- On Saturday, April 2, music lovers across Colorado have the rare opportunity to listen to a real-time, live broadcast of Carl Orff's choral masterwork "Carmina Burana" featuring the Colorado Symphony, led by acclaimed conductor Antoni Wit. Beginning at 7 p.m., Colorado Public Radio (CPR) will broadcast the concert event, featuring soprano Stacey Tappan, tenor Nicholas Phan, baritone Hyjng Yun, together with the Colorado Symphony Chorus and Colorado Children's Chorale, on stations across the State and online at www.CPR.org. This riveting concert also includes Roussel's Suite No.2 from Bacchus et Ariane, Op. 4.

Composed in 1837, "Carmina Burana" remains one of the most popular works in the classical music repertoire thanks to its universal appeal, risqué and provocative subject matter, and pure "rock concert appeal." Today, O Fortuna – the opening and closing to "Carmina Burana" – can be heard in films ranging from "Excalibur" to "Natural Born Killers" to "The Hunt for Red October," as well as dozens of action movie trailers and commercials. Often regarded as a celebration of springtime, "Carmina Burana" embraces the vivid emotions and heightened sensory awareness that people often feel as the earth awakens after a long winter.

Saturday's CPR broadcast will reach symphony fans who would not otherwise have access to the concert; offering them the chance to experience the artistry of internationally renowned guest artists together with the exceptional musicians of the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Chorus and Colorado Children's Chorale. The CPR broadcast begins at 7 p.m. – 30 minutes before the start of the concert. Classical Music Hosts will introduce the music to-be-heard during live broadcast, as well as interview musicians and artistic leadership backstage.
