Follow on Google News | Main Line Middle School Students Raise More Than $6,200 for Childhood Cancer ResearchDevon Prep students spend an evening "hanging out" for kids who can't.
Devon Prep sixth, seventh and eighth graders recently participated in “Up for a Cause” a five hour fundraiser which netted over $6,200. Devon Prep’s Christian Action Program (CAP) sponsored this event which took place in the school’s gym and included activities such as basketball, dodge ball, a moon bounce and board games, in addition to donated food and prizes. CAP also sponsored a similar event for Devon Prep’s Upper School students last fall, raising over $25,000, making the total donation to St. Jude’s nearly $32,000. CAP began “Up for a Cause” over ten years ago to raise money for charity. Since then they have raised over $200,000 for hospitals that care for ill children. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org/ Devon Prep’s Christian Action Program is a service organization which includes nearly 50 middle and upper school students dedicated to caring for and helping those less fortunate. Their activities include collecting food for neighborhood shelters and food closets, hosting a Christmas party for residents of St. Edmond's Home, organizing clothing and toy drives, sponsoring a Blood Drive for the American Red Cross, and conducting fund raisers for several non-profit organizations. Devon Prep is a small, private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six to 12 conducted by the Piarist Fathers. The school enrolls nearly 300 students who hail from Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks County as well as parts of Philadelphia. Devon Prep is located on a 20 acre campus on Philadelphia’ End
