Mike Sweeney Barber 200 Preview

April 7, 2011 - PRLog -- P1 Groupe driver Mike Sweeney goes into this weekends’ Barber 200 at Barber Motorsports Park for the third round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series with Brian Lock in a brand new Nissan 370Z for the Grand Sport class, and have their site set on a strong debut.

"Here we go! This is really cool, debuting a new car and bringing Nissan back into GRAND-AM with the NISMO 370Z. I can't even describe how much work has gone into this car at the shop, and I can't wait to get this car out on track so we can start developing the new A.M. Performance #04 Nissan Motorsports/Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) NISMO 370Z into a winner. We realize that the bar has been set high, starting way back with Bob Sharp and BRE with the 240Zs through the awesome prototype ZX-Turbos, but we're glad to have such awesome shoes to fill with such a historically successful brand!"

Sweeney began his driving career as a substitute driver in a Porsche 356, bringing the car home in 7th position after spending several years in Grand Prix’s on his Honda RS 125 Road Racing Bike. Sweeney has won back-to-back events in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series with the APR Motorsport VW GTi, including the first ever win for APR Motorsports and VW’s first professional win as a manufacturer in over 25 years.
