J&C Joel dive in to vintage bath

April 11, 2011 - PRLog -- J&C Joel worked alongside rigging system supply specialist Lift-Turn-Move (LTM) to design and install a truss grid rigging system into the former Victorian Harpurhey Public Baths in north Manchester.

The Grade II listed building is owned by The Manchester College’s North Manchester Sixth Form College and has been converted into a flexible performing arts space for staging drama, dance and music. The college required a moving truss grid system that could be rigged or de-rigged with equipment quickly and easily and was also suitable for training and teaching purposes.

J&C Joel and LTM installed a rigging system designed to cater to any type of production consisting of four Lite Pro 520 mm 13-metre box trusses spanning the width of the venue. This arrangement was chosen for its strength, while the cross bracing structure does not block any light entering through the glass apex roof.

As Harpurhey Baths is a listed building no apparatus could be hung from the ceiling so the trusses were mounted on custom designed and fabricated brackets. These were RAL coated to match the colour of the building’s original brickwork.

J&C Joel’s installation team also installed a Triple E track, which also matched the building’s brickwork, along the sides of the truss arrangement along with a set of black deko molton blackout curtains. The curtains allow either the whole perimeter of the space to be blacked out or just selected segments.
