Tax Day Freebies start on April 15 2011

April 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Relax. This year, taxpayers have three extra days to prepare their returns. Because Emancipation Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act by Abraham Lincoln, is being observed on April 15th in Washington D.C., the IRS has declared the deadline for personal taxes to be Monday, April 18. However, not all state tax deadlines are April 18. Taxpayers should check with their state's Department of Revenue to confirm their state tax deadline.

For the first time, several major tax preparation services including TurboTax, H&R Block, and Jackson Hewitt are offering free federal file with no income limits for 1040EZ/simple returns with no dependents.  Previously, this freebie was limited to people with incomes under $40,000.  If you need to file State Taxes, TurboTax and H&R Block Free Editions are $27.95 per state, whereas Jackson Hewitt is $29.95 per state. The Free Edition from all 3 companies include error checking, however, Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block offer audit checking also. TurboTax estimates that you will get your return in as little as 8 days, but H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt estimate the normal 3 - 8 weeks to receive your refund.
