This is when the dog works diligently, without interruption, and without needing assistance as a constant reminder.

A dog that will keep searching for a ball when thrown into a paddock might be ready to track. A dog that works the edges of the scent pad accurately, and with a clear understanding of which side is the important side, may be ready to track. Identifying when to begin tracking your dog is very much a judgement call and it could mean a different age for different dogs.
