Colorado Symphony announces FREE Cinco de Mayo community concert

Free concert features tenor Jose Luis Duval, trumpeter Jeff Nevin, Mariachi "Sol de Mi Tierra," El Mariachi Juvenil Bryant Webster and Fiesta Colorado and Semblanzas de México
 
April 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The Colorado Symphony, NEWSED CDC, and the Consulate General of Mexico are proud to present the ninth annual Cinco de Mayo Concert featuring the Colorado Symphony, led by resident conductor Scott O'Neil, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Boettcher Concert Hall. A free community concert, this family-friendly event celebrates the diverse cultural heritage of Denver's Latino community through dance, folklore and music. From the excitement of mariachi to the thrill of dancers from Fiesta Colorado and Semblanzas de México, Cinco de Mayo with the Colorado Symphony is a magnificent cultural journey for people of all ages.

Critically-acclaimed Mexican tenor José Luis Duval and award-winning composer and trumpeter Jeff Nevin join the Colorado Symphony for this special evening that also welcomes Mariachi "Sol de Mi Tierra" and El Mariachi Juvenil Bryant Webster. Program highlights include works by Manuel Esperón ("Amorcito corazón, Ay Jalisco no te rajes"), Jeff Nevin ("La Fuerza del Mariachi, Fiestas patrias popurrí"), Arturo Márquez (Danzón no. 2), Agustín Lara ("Granada"), and much more.

Thanks to the continued partnership and support of the Colorado Symphony, NEWSED CDC, Consulate General of México, and the Mexican Cultural Center, tickets are free. Concertgoers can pick up free tickets at the Colorado Symphony Box Office. Tickets will also be available at the door on concert night.

Free Tickets:
FREE tickets are now available at the Colorado Symphony Box Office in-person in the lobby of Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Hours are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door on concert night. Tickets are FREE and required for entry.

About José Luis Duval
International tenor José Luis Duval has performed with some of the most prestigious opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Washington National Opera, Baltimore Opera, Pittsburgh Opera and concert halls throughout the world. In 2005, Duval made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Rodolfo in "La Bohème" and his Met broadcast debut in the same role. In 2011, he will travel with the Met for its Japan Tour and continue to cover assignments at the Met through 2012. Recent performances include "La Bohème" in Pamplona; Aroldo in Bilbao; Pinkerton in Guadalajara; Don José in Juarez; Calaf in Manaos, Brazil; and Canio at the Bellas Artes; as well as concert performances of "Otello" at the Festival Cervantino and a Mexican Three Tenors Concert Tour. About Jeff Nevin
Jeff Nevin is an award-winning classical composer whose works have been performed by the San Diego Symphony, the La Jolla Symphony, the Peninsula Symphony, the Sol de Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and many other ensembles. Also a skilled performer, he is the founder and artistic director of Mariachi Champa–a Nevin; principal trumpet in the La Jolla Symphony; a frequent substitute with the San Diego Symphony; and has performed with artists such as Charlotte Church, Kenny Loggins, The Moody Blues, Garison Keilor and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. Nevin is Professor of Music and Director of Mariachi Activities at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California, where he is developing a mariachi curriculum that is the first of its kind. He has given lectures to music educators across the country on the subject of incorporating mariachi music into public school curricula, and he is the artistic director of the Mariachi Scholarship Foundation.
