Follow on Google News | ![]() Local Author Discusses Chechnya JihadProfessor of Materials Science, Marc André Meyers, will be discussing his second sci-fi thriller, "Chechnya Jihad," at Mysterious Galaxy bookstore Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Chechnya Jihad begins with the accidental discovery in New Mexico of a super explosive a thousand times more powerful than conventional ones. This sends assistant professor Jean-Claude Delvaux into a whirlwind of travel, passion, and discovery. Delvaux meets with tragedy in Chechnya, while taking part in its liberation struggle, and emerges broken-hearted from the rubble of Grozny, swearing off violence. Destiny strikes again when Delvaux is lured by love and loyalty around the world and into the new nexus of conflict—a brutal jihad in the mountains of Afghanistan. Marc Meyers is a Distinguished Professor of Materials Science at the University of California, San Diego and Life Member, Clare Hall, Cambridge (UK). He has carried out research within his field all over the world and his work with the Center for Explosives Technology Research (New Mexico), the US Army, Japanese and Soviet research institutes led him to imagine a chain of events which could lead to the frightening scenario in his first novel, Mayan Mars. His expertise in explosives, and his knowledge of Chechnya’s brutal war, inspired the situations and events in Chechnya Jihad. Dr. Meyers lives in San Diego and travels extensively. Readers will find Marc prepared to give his insight on the political struggles in Chechnya, the brutalities of war, the positive values of Islam, and the plausibility of explosive discoveries such as the one that launches the adventure in Chechnya Jihad. He will also be happy to sign copies of both of his books which will be available at Mysterious Galaxy. Mysterious Galaxy bookstore has been providing San Diego with science fiction, mystery, fantasy, and horror books since their debut in 1993. Meyers is proud to join the ranks of many renowned authors who have visited the store including Ray Bradbury, Eoin Colfer, and many others, saying, “I am delighted to return to Mysterious Galaxy with my second novel. Mayan Mars was a perfect match for this store and I look forward to this second signing.” End
