May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Many Rivers Community Acupuncture, an affordable acupuncture clinic with a sliding scale of $15 - $35 per treatment, opens in downtown Windsor, Connecticut on Thursday, May 12.   A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 12, followed by a Free Acupuncture Day on Saturday, May 14 from 10 am to 2 pm.

Many Rivers is a proud part of the Community Acupuncture movement that is working to make health care affordable and accessible.  Many Rivers provides high quality acupuncture at an affordable price.  Individualized treatments are offered in a quiet group setting.  Patients choose what they can afford to pay on a sliding scale, with no questions asked and no income verification required.

Carrie Sawtell, L.Ac., founded the practice.  She is a graduate of Wesleyan University, and she recently moved back to the United States after living in China for 3 ½ years.  While in China, she completed post-graduate studies at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and interned in two of Shanghai’s prestigious integrative medicine hospitals.

In China, most acupuncture is given in groups rather than in individualized settings.   However, when acupuncture first came to the United States, the group treatment model was replaced by the Western model of one-patient-per-treatment room.  Most acupuncturists in the Windsor/Hartford area charge anywhere from $65 to $150+ per treatment.  Many Rivers Community Acupuncture hopes to make acupuncture available to those who can't afford these high prices by returning to the Chinese model of group treatment.

“Community acupuncture makes sense,” says Sawtell.  “You, your family members, and your friends can be treated at the same time.  Plus, the group environment can produce a collective feeling of relaxation, making your treatment much more powerful.”  In addition, walking into a community treatment room and seeing the other patients feeling calm and comfortable can reduce the jitters some first-time patients may experience.

On May 12 there will be a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10 am followed by a tour of the clinic and the opportunity to meet Carrie Sawtell.  Refreshments and pastries will be provided by Crumb Cakes.  On May 14 free acupuncture treatments will be provided from 10 am to 2 pm to all guests, and there will be drinks, snacks, and music.  At both events, guests can enter a raffle to win a hand-painted Chinese scroll.  The clinic is located at 44 Bloomfield Avenue in downtown Windsor.  For more information, contact Carrie Sawtell at (860) 683-0011 or go to http://www.manyriversacupuncture.com/
