Work progresses on BF Adventure development

A feast for the senses will soon be on offer at Penryn-based charity and outdoor activity centre BF Adventure as work progresses on the development of £70,000 worth of accessible facilities.

May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- The charity is adding the finishing touches to a fully accessible climbing wall and zip wire with special kite harness, along with a new toilet and shower block.

Work is also almost complete on a sensory trail – a circular walk complete with visual and auditory aids such as posts, hand-holds, signs and information.

The new facilities will be launched in May with a special event and chance to try the new equipment.

Britta Hoffmann, marketing manager for BF Adventure, said: “We’re very excited about the new accessible facilities, particularly the sensory trail.

“It will be available for all groups that come to BF Adventure - people will be able to touch, feel, listen, smell and really enjoy their surroundings.”

The sensory trail will incorporate seating, flooring and shelters to watch and listen to wildlife, as well as a garden with colourful, scented flowers and plants.

There will also be a bug habitat, nature pond, orienteering points and a music area with outdoor instruments such as a drum kit made from recycled materials and a bamboo xylophone.

The trail will be fully accessible for children and adults of all abilities, complete with a wheelchair-friendly forest school area.

The new facilities at BF Adventure have been made possible thanks to £70,000 of funding from Aiming High for Disabled Children.

The charity has also received planning permission to improve the site and replace the old portacabins they have been operating from in the past 21 years. Various events and community fundraising are planned to raise funds and realise the project in phases.
