Follow on Google News | ![]() Univ. of Miami President Named Distinguished NSCS MemberDonna Shalala is honored as a Distinguished Member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
NSCS is an honor society for high-achieving first- and second-year college students at 280 universities including the University of Miami. As a Distinguished Member, Shalala will have all the rights and benefits of a lifetime member of the Society. “We chose to honor President Shalala because of her tremendous work both at the University of Miami and nationally,” Shalala became professor of political science and president of the University of Miami in 2001. Prior to joining the University, she served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1993-2001. She served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1987 to 1993 and president of Hunter College from 1980 to 1987. She earned her Ph.D. degree from The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
