Leonardo moved to Florence to begin an apprenticeship in the workshop of Verrocchio at the age of 14. At the time, Andrea del Verrochio was the most famous artist in Florence. During his tenure with Verrocchio, Leonardo learned the mixing of colors and painted simple parts of paintings. In June, 1472, Leonardo was listed as a member of the Painters Guild of Florence.

Most of Da Vinci paintings during the Renaissance were seen as a revolt against the establishment – the deeply entrenched religious beliefs of the time. And although he did not question the established beliefs and truths, he set out to find out for himself the facts. From nature and animals, metals and science, space and astronomy there was not a facet of the everyday world that did not stir his curiosity and he set about fulfilling and satiating this curiosity by experimenting – which may logically explain his ultimate involvement in secret cult society (ies) – the Priory of Sion, Knights Templar, the Illuminati and the Masonic Lodge. Anyone who has read historical data on the Renaissance, the Catholic Church and various fallouts as they occurred in the Medieval Ages, and the more recent work The Da Vinci Code, would have a fair idea of the amount of interest, curiosity and debunking that these theories have led to.
