May 16, 2011 - PRLog -- ATLANTA — McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) Chief Recruiting & Development Officer Jennifer S. Queen was named to fill a one-year vacancy in the position of vice president of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) during the association’s annual business meeting on April 29. The vacancy had occurred when the former vice president, who had completed only one year of a two-year term, was voted 2011-2012 president-elect during that same business meeting.

Queen has been with MLA for more than 18 years.  She is responsible for leading the firm's attorney recruiting, hiring and diversity efforts, as well as overseeing the firmwide professional development program. She works closely with senior firm management to develop long-term lateral recruitment and retention strategies and also supports the growth and expansion plans of practice groups.  Queen organized MLA’s Hiring & Professional Development Task Force that led to the implementation of a merit-based evaluation system of promoting associates based on well-defined core competencies and aligning associate compensation and billing rates based on those competencies, rather than years out of law school. In addition, Queen built MLA’s Professional Development department that is responsible for the associate evaluation process, the mentor program and the wide-range of training the firm provides to attorneys, lobbyists and other professionals.

Her extensive past service to NALP includes service on the 2009-2011 and 1998-1999 NALP Boards of Directors; as chair and a vice chair of NALP’s Annual Education Conference Planning Committee; a regional coordinator; a member of NALP’s Nominating Committee; and a member of NALP’s Educational Program Advisory Council. She has served as both president and vice president of the Atlanta Legal Recruitment Association.

Founded in 1971, NALP is a nonprofit association dedicated to continuously improving career counseling and planning, recruitment and retention, and the professional development of law students, lawyers, and its members. Today the membership of NALP includes every American Bar Association-accredited law school in the U.S., numerous Canadian law schools, and more than 900 of the largest law firms and legal employers. Within those organizations, NALP’s member representatives head law school career development offices and law firm and legal employer recruiting and professional development departments.
