Main Line School Class of 2011 Earns Nearly $8 Million in Academic Scholarships

Sixty Devon Prep seniors set to graduate on Saturday, June 4 at 10 AM.
 
May 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Making ends meet can be quite a challenge for today's parents with the price of gas on the rise along with everything else. Paying for college only adds to the challenge. However, the parents of Devon Preparatory School’s Class of 2011 will be all smiles as their sons walk down the aisle during their Commencement Ceremony at 10 AM on Saturday, June 4.

Collectively the 60 members of the class earned over $7.7 million in college scholarships. In addition Devon Prep’s senior class also received more than 300 acceptances to over 100 colleges and universities, including Fordham, Lehigh, NYU, Syracuse, Case Western Reserve, Drexel University, Villanova, Vassar College and Penn State Honors.

These seniors will graduate in the school’s athletic facility on campus at 363 North Valley Forge Road in Devon, PA. Rev. Mario Vizcaino, Sch.P., Provincial of the Piarist Fathers USA Province, will preside over the ceremony.

Among the members of Devon Prep’s Class of 2011 are 25 AP Scholars, seven of whom are AP Scholars with Distinction, and six National Merit Scholars. Two graduates (Nicholas Pancerella and Alex Pachella) will go on to play Division 1 and Division 3 baseball, respectively. And one graduate, David Freiberg, has had perfect attendance for 7 years, since enrolling in Devon Prep in sixth grade.

In addition, this senior class has performed nearly 2000 hours of community service doing everything from collecting and distributing food to needy families to raising over $25,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Speaking at this year’s commencement will be Valedictorian Harry G. Crimi and Salutatorian Nicholas A. Pancerella.  Both of these young men are AP Scholars as well as Distinguished Honor Students and members of the National Honor Society. Crimi plans to attend the College of the Holy Cross in the fall and Pancerella will attend Binghamton University, where he has been recruited to play baseball.

This year’s guest speaker will be Devon Prep Class of 1972 Alumnus Dr. Michael Shank, DO, of Rose Tree Medical Associates. Dr. Shank is board certified in geriatric medicine and family practice. He serves as medical director of White Horse Village in Newtown Square. Dr. Shank is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Also during Devon Prep’s graduation ceremony Class of 1969 Alumnus Albert E. Girod will receive the Alumni Achievement Award.  Girod serves as Founder and Managing Partner of SSL Services, Potomac, MD.  SSL is in the business of managing patents and intellectual property.  Prior to SSL Services Girod served as President of Convergent Wealth Advisors in Rockville, MD.  Girod is a leader in the business community and has served on numerous boards of both private and public corporations.

Several awards will be also presented to the graduates honoring them for academic excellence, school spirit and community service.
