By: Esplin PR The Weirdy Beardy, Yorkshireman Simon Gillis, is delighted with the public vote and says: “I’m chuffed to bits that t’Northern Monkey won and will wear the beard with pride.” The currently shaggy, unkempt follicles are up for the chop at 6.00pm on Wednesday, 1st June, at Sharps Barbers, 13a Charlotte Street, London WT1 1RH. The whole idea started when native Yorkshire gent and London digital agency LBi, executive creative director Simon Gillis, signed up for the charity challenge. His creative companions decided to get in on the act and help with fund raising by building the website www.manwalksintoabarbershop and let people choose the beard he should sport for the trek. Members of the public were asked to make a donation and to vote for the beard they would most like to see around his cheeky chops and he promised to have his unkempt follicles crafted into the winning choice. So far donations have reached over £2,300. Other beardy options included, Dream Beard, WWWdot, Dr Gizzard, Wizard Walker and Hitler Descent. Trailtrekker starts on Saturday 4th June and finishes on Sunday 5th June. 250 teams of four are taking part this year and have to walk through the night and complete the trek within 30 hours. This trek is the equivalent distance of two and a half marathons and an ascent/decent equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon.
