First Documentary About American Legend, Lead Belly Launches Campaign To Fund Film

June 1, 2011 - PRLog -- NASHVILLE, TN – For the first time ever, a film portraying the timeline of American Folk and Blues singer Huddie Ledbetter, professionally known as Lead Belly “King of The 12- String Guitar” will hit the big screen as a full length documentary directed in part by Nashville based charity organization, The Lead Belly Foundation.

The Lead Belly Foundation will launch a crowdfunding effort via www.Indiegogo.com on June 1, 2011. Supporters of the documentary will not only fund the film, but will help support the work of the foundation and contribute to upholding the legacy of Lead Belly. The Lead Belly Foundation along with Nashville film company; Film House have teamed up to reveal Lead Belly’s true story by using rarely seen archived footage, recordings, video performances of Lead Belly himself, as well as old and new interviews. An intimate portrait of the American legend is told by family and friends that knew him personally and professionally. “Life, Legend, Legacy,” features appearances from many artists including; the late Odetta, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Pete Seeger, who also presented Lead Belly into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and many more.

The documentary underscores his achievements by providing an indebt account of his life and explains how fans and music enthusiast alike turned Huddie Ledbetter into an icon. The documentary provides more balance that the 1976 Gordon Parks film “Lead Belly,” which respectfully illustrated his missteps through life and music.

“While the movie was entertaining, it only showed specific points of his timeline. We gathered some of his friends and family who could share their experience of his personality, work ethic and influence on music,” explains producer and curator for the Lead Belly Foundation, Alvin Singh.

The Lead Belly Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports music school programs, scholarships and the preservation of the Lead Belly Archives.
