June 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Thanks to its exceptional marine and agricultural resources, a unique environment for green tech, an internationally renowned agrifood industry, technological expertise and academic centers of excellence, the Bretagne region is a major player in biotech in both France and Europe as a whole. Capbiotek is a biotech industry cluster based in the region, which will exhibit at the 2011 BIO International Convention in Washington, D.C., from June 27 to 30, on the French Pavilion at booth 2505. Capbiotek will present its new bioservices directory at BIO, as well as accompany four of the cluster's companies for the duration of the show.

Capbiotek, the biotech cluster of Bretagne, is coordinated by Bretagne Développement Innovation and is structured into three fields of expertise - each of which is underpinned by a Regional Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (Centre Régional d’Innovation et de Transfert de Technologies, CRITT).
- From the molecule to the market (CRITT Santé Bretagne)
- Production of biomolecules (CBB Développement)
- Cross-fertilizing biotech with IT (MEITO)

Capbiotek and its partners at Bretagne International help Breton companies identifiy opportunities deemed key to their strategic development, whether for encouraging a favorable environment for biotechnologies, expanding their reach internationally, finding sources of financing, or helping a company set up business in Bretagne.

At BIO2011, Capbiotek will present its new Bioservices Directory 2011.  This catalog of service providers (market research, biomanufacturing, screening, intellectual property, characterization, validation, formulation, regulatory affairs, registration and marketing, etc.) helps biotechs and pharma reach their goals. The directory can be downloaded from www.capbiotek.fr.

Capbiotek will also accompany four Breton companies at this year BIO event: two service providers and two innovation companies.

C.E.P.I (Centre européen de peinture industrielle): CEPI offers a renewal service for wall coating in laboratories and cleanrooms. It can work on panels that have been damaged by aftershocks or through hydrogen peroxide vapor bio-decontamination. CEPI technicians go on-site in order to do bodywork and coating renewing without impacting the premise's activity. CEPI is the biggest French company dedicated to panels’ renewal in running production areas: pharmaceutical sector, cosmetics, electronics and even agro-foodstuffs plants, as well as positive and negative cold rooms.

Hemarina: an innovative R&D company in biotechnology based in Morlaix, France, and holder of patented technologies (liscence, UPMC-CNRS) based on over 20 years of fundamental research. In March 2007, the company's founders identified a family of extracellular hemoglobins coming from marine organisms that answer at all the specifications needed to make a universal oxygen carrier. The company has recently entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Naval Medical Research Center for the use of HEMOxycarrier®, the last generation of universal oxygen carrier. The CRADA, titled, Advancing Oxygen Therapeutic Agent development by evaluating the vasoactivity, oxygen carrying capacity, and effectiveness of HEMARINA-M101 (HEMOXYcarrier®) in a non clinical model as a pre-hospital resuscitation fluid for traumatic brain injury, with or without hemorrhagic shock is a three-year study that will test the HEMOXYcarrier® on laboratory models.

Biotrial: Founded in 1989, Biotrial is a leading CRO specialized in Early Development with a large range of services from Non-Clinical Pharmacology, Phase I studies, Phase II-IV Trial Management, Oncology, Data Management, Biostatistics, Core Lab (ECG, imaging, cognitive assessments, etc.), Regulatory Affairs to Medical Writing. Based in France, the UK and Belgium, Biotrial performs hundreds of studies a year and offers tailor-made solutions to Pharma and Biotech companies. In 2011 Biotrial continues to develop new partnerships in India, has expanded its Paris Unit, established a sales presence in Brussels, will open a new 50,000-sq.ft. extension in Rennes, and will announce the location of the new 100-bed Phase I Clinic in the United States.

Javenech HTL: Founded in 1992, Javenech HTL specializes in the manufacture, purification and research and development of Sodium Hyaluronate (HA). Its production is by biosynthesis using a natural, non-OGM, bacterial strain (Mw from 1,000 dalton to 4 million dalton). HTL’s production facility is cMP, holds Certificates of Suitability with the European Pharmacopoeia for low and high Mw Sodium Hyaluronate, is ISO 9001 (2000) and has a Master File (MAF) filed with both the FDA (U.S.) and the TGA (Australia). The dynamism of the Capbiotek network has contributed to the emergence of a company that is now selling biomolecules to medical, cosmetics and nutrition markets worldwide.
