Colorado Symphony June Concerts Thrill With Pops and Classics

Boyz II Men, Pink Martini and Sandi Patty headline Colorado Symphony Pops concerts; Masterworks season finale features all-Wagner program, including Act I from "Die Walküre"
 
June 2, 2011 - PRLog -- June at the Colorado Symphony opens this weekend with a blockbuster three-day Pops concert weekend featuring an inspirational evening of Americana with Sandi Patty on Friday, June 3; the luscious cocktail-hour sounds of Pink Martini on Saturday, June 4; and the unforgettable melodies and and a capella harmonies of R&B legends Boyz II Men on Sunday, June 5. Then, the Colorado Symphony 2010/11 Masterworks series concludes on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 with a magnificent evening of Wagner masterpieces, including Act I from "Die Walküre" featuring conductor Christian Arming and soprano Amber Wagner, tenor Simon O'Neill and bass Burak Bilgili. CELEBRATE AMERICA WITH SANDI PATTY: FRIDAY, JUNE 3

Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Sandi Patty joins the Colorado Symphony and Colorado Symphony Chorus for an inspirational night of Americana at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3. This concert features the five-time Grammy® Award-winner as she celebrates American music with such classics as "America the Beautiful" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." In her evening with the Colorado Symphony led by Scott O'Neil, and the Colorado Symphony Chorus under the direction of Duain Wolfe, Patty shines the spotlight on the Great American Songbook. The evening features treasured songs such as "Can't Help Lovin' That Man of Mine" from the 1927 musical Show Boat, and "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Disney's Pinocchio, as well as "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, and "Our Love Is Here To Stay," written by George and Ira Gershwin for the film The Goldwyn Follies and featured in the 1951 blockbuster, "An American in Paris."

PINK MARTINI: SATURDAY, JUNE 4

Pink Martini - the band that personifies a glamorous Hollywood sensibility that has captivated audiences around the world - joins the Colorado Symphony at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. Resident conductor Scott O'Neil leads this cocktail hour-inspired evening featuring Pink Martini's unique blend of Latin, jazz, cabaret, samba and classical music. The Colorado Symphony is also pleased to announce that China Forbes will be performing with Pink Martini, alongside band founder Thomas Lauderdale and an ensemble of 10 spellbinding musicians.

BOYZ II MEN: SUNDAY, JUNE 5

Boyz II Men, the best-selling R&B group of all time, joins the Colorado Symphony for a one-night-only concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 5. Concertgoers will enjoy such mega-hits as "End of the Road," "On Bended Knee," "4 Seasons of Loneliness" and "I'll Make Love to You." This is a rare orchestral collaboration for Boyz II Men members Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman, and the 79-member Colorado Symphony. Fans can expect Boyz II Men to seamlessly blend their unforgettable melodies and and a capella harmonies with the lush, majestic sounds of the orchestra, led by resident conductor Scott O'Neil.

DIE WALKÜRE: SATURDAY, JUNE 11 AND SUNDAY, JUNE 12

Viennese conductor Christian Arming joins the Colorado Symphony for a spectacular season finale featuring three of music's finest Wagnerian singers as the Colorado Symphony and Chorus bring Wagner's masterworks to life at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 12. Soprano Amber Wagner, tenor Simon O'Neill and bass Burak Bilgili are featured in the crowning jewel of the season finale: Wagner's Act I from "Die Walküre" from his cycle of "music-dramas," "The Ring of the Nibelungen" ("The Ring Cycle"). Also an exceptional opportunity to experience great Wagner choruses, the Colorado Symphony season finale promises to thrill concertgoers with the Spinning Chorus from Act II of "Der Fliegende Holländer" ("The Flying Dutchman"), "Wach' auf!" from "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" ("The Mastersingers of Nuremberg") and the famous Bridal Chorus from "Lohengrin."
