2nd Annual Oxford Rhythm Revival

Get back to your roots! A celebration of Americana music at the Historic Oxford Square on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- The summer heat obliges the daily rhythm of life to slow down in the South, but sometimes the best way to deal with the heat is to beat it…with the gospel, soul, blues and rock that come out of the Deep South.  Anticipation is growing louder as locals and artists prepare for the Second Annual Oxford Rhythm Revival.  The Rhythm Revival will once again showcase a wide range of musical talents on Saturday, June 18, 2011 with sounds ranging from blues to bluegrass, country to rockabilly, and gospel to good-old rock and roll.  Oxford, Mississippi, where the Delta blues meets the rockabilly of the Hill Country, provides the perfect venue for this celebration of “Americana” music.  The festival captures that small-town feel with community events such as music, art, and family activities throughout the day.  The celebration continues into the night as musical performers take to the stages of Proud Larry’s, Rooster’s Blues House, and Soulshine Pizza Factory.

This year’s festival boasts a line-up that is as rich in musical diversity as it is in talent.  Famed Memphian Keith Sykes is bringing his cross-breeding of country and rock and roll to the Rooster’s Blues House stage.  Around the corner, Shannon McNally will be serenading those at Proud Larry’s with her smooth and soulful rock.  Soulshine will be hosting the Oxford-based Minor Adjustments, a group that blends Mississippi blues and rock with its resonant vocals mixed with the twang of a string band.

Festivities will begin on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 9 a.m. with the Oxford Artist Guild and Maker’s Market on the Courthouse Lawn.  The Revival will kick-off at 7 p.m. at the Southside Gallery stage with a showcase performance by members of the Oxford Singer Songwriters Association.  The festival will then fill the Square with the music of twelve different bands at four venues, including performances by the Bill Perry Trio, Wooden Finger, and Ruby Jane.

Musicians celebrating the depth of regional music will be playing for a good cause—the Oxford Medical Ministries Clinic, a private, non-profit, community-based organization committed to providing healthcare at no charge to uninsured working adults of Lafayette and Yalobusha counties.  In its inaugural year, the festival raised over $10,000 for the OMMC, marking its place as the next Double Decker.  Get back to your roots – The Oxford Rhythm Revival, June 18, 2011 on the Square in Oxford. The $20 All-Venue Pass grants access to all shows and venues and can be purchased on the event website www.oxfordrhythmrevival.com.
